How to brew pour over

Pour over

We love pour-over coffee because it’s easy to make right at home, bringing out a wide range of delicious flavours. With just a few simple tools and a little patience, you can create a cup that highlights the unique qualities of your favourite beans.

What You’ll Need

  • Pour-over cone or dripper
  • Paper filter
  • Kettle
  • Scales
  • Mug
  • 15g of your favourite coffee beans (medium grind)

Step-by-Step

  1. Place your pour-over cone on top of your mug and insert a paper filter.
  2. Boil the water and let it cool for about 30 seconds. You want it to be around 200°F (93°C).
  3. Rinse your filter with hot water and reset above your mug.
  4. Add the 15g of coffee grounds to the filter in the cone.
  5. Start the timer and begin pouring water evenly over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, just enough to saturate them about 50g. This is called the bloom. Allow it to sit for about 30 seconds.
  6. After the bloom, continue pouring the remaining 200g of water over the grounds, slowly and steadily. Keep the water level consistent and avoid pouring directly onto the sides of the filter.
  7. Your total brew time should be around 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Adjust your grind size and pouring speed if needed.
  8. Once the timer hits the desired brew time, remove the filter, and enjoy your freshly brewed pour-over coffee.
